Law, servicing men and women in the New York City area. We handle matters

Your Divorce (Dutton: 1994) and has made numerous television and radio
appearances throughout the country including The Today Show. Mr.
Horgan is currently at work on another book tentatively entitled The

personal acrimony and achieve reasonable solutions to divisive problems.
Philosophy
Family Law cases differ markedly from other legal matters. Mr. Horgan
and his staff have long experience in providing the personal attention required
by clients in matrimonial disputes. In every assignment it is our goal to be
thorough and aggressive on behalf of our clients, while making sure the client
is an active participant in the process. Our firm philosophy, which
emphasizes communication, is as follows:
-
It is our job to know the law. Through the years we have
handled a wide range of matters. Some cases involve millions of dollars and
turn on such complex issues as evaluating a business, determining
jurisdiction, or cross-examining an expert witness. To serve our
clients better, we keep abreast of the constant changes in the
law and the court rules of the various judges, recognizing that preparation
and commitment are paramount in obtaining a successful result.
-
Due to its unique nature, matrimonial disputes demand
a strong relationship between attorney and client. The client's
innermost secrets may become known to his or her attorney, and the client
must be assured that these confidences are respected, understood, and made a
part of the overall strategy affecting the case. Similarly, it is
imperative that attorney and client develop lines of communication so that
the client fully understands what is going on. Lawyers and car
mechanics share one failing: they tend to speak in a private language. It is
the lawyer's responsibility to make sure the client always understands the
underlying rationale for all decisions.
-
The stakes in matrimonial cases are high, at times
frighteningly so. Big decisions are the norm. The client's
children, house, pension and assets may be at
risk. Whether the case is contested or uncontested (resolved through
settlement), the client must be an integral part of the decision-making
process in the case. The client will live with the consequences of
these decisions for a long time.
